“From exploring new ideas, finding new audiences, and finishing my full-length video section, 2018 was one of the funnest years in recent memory. All the hard work, solo parking garage sessions and mental challenges of trying to be “creative” have brought about some great opportunities. I’m excited to join a crew of uniquely skilled and styled riders, and to have the support of a brand that’s stood the test of time. This is going to be fun!"

Who is Tate Roskelley? Well when it has to be summed up in a paragraph, I would have to say I am a simple guy who really loves riding bikes. When it comes to the bike riding however, maybe it’s not so simple. I try my hardest to stay true to myself and what I enjoy about bike riding. Guess I would have to call myself “creative”, but you could argue that we all are in our own way. What makes me the happiest is when I create something that inspires others or at least makes them smile or stop and think for a second. The thing I love most about bike riding is the individual aspect about the sport. Although I love riding with friends, a solo session—just me and the city—is my therapy. The older I get the more I enjoy the simple things in life and I can’t thank BMX enough for what it’s taught me.

What makes Tate Roskelley, Tate Roskelley?

That’s a tough one haha, I guess just a normal guy who strives to bring a little something extra to his riding. The kinda guy that gets an idea in his head and can’t stop ‘til it’s completed.

Drifts or boosts?

Well boosts were never my strong point so I’m going to have to go with the drifts and slides.

Most creative trick you have ever pulled off? (according to you)

Hmmm... as of late I’m going to go with my ender clip in the Ride Headlights video. In the clip I loosened my front tire and pull up into a manual. The front tire rolls away ahead of me and then bounces off of a wall, over a rope and somehow lands back in my forks.

Favorite fresh produce?

Grapefruit in the morning, apple while I’m riding.

How do you see lines and spots so differently from everyone else?

Well that boils down to countless hours of just having fun and experimenting with new ideas. Sometimes the trick pops into my head and I have to find the spot to make it happen, and sometimes I see a spot and the trick jumps out at me. Also, being inspired by those around me doing cool things helps a lot too!

How often do you go through tires?

I have burnt thru a front tire trying to land a super technical slider in about three days. But usually about a new pair every two months.

Creative process: Long and labored or one and done?

It always ends up being long and labored on for me. Typically if I can land something one and done (unless it’s something really burly) I tend to think, “well that was easy, let’s make it harder”. Shout out to the filmers I’ve worked with over the years for believing in that mindset!

What’s next on the filming front?

Well winter is in full swing out here in Utah so I’ll just have to roll with the punches and start chipping away on a GT edit. I’m blessed to have some really great filmers around me so I want to make something I’m really hyped on. In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled for a few Instagram videos dropping to hold ya over!
